macOS Big Sur “kills” old MacBook models

Many MacBook users have complained that the macOS Big Sur update has bricked their laptops. There are already many posts on this topic on Reddit, various forums and the Apple support site, writes Macrumors.

The owners of 13-inch MacBook Pros from late 2013 and mid-2014 appear to have suffered the most. They all faced device freezing when trying to update the system. The screen goes black and the machine does not respond to any key combinations. You cannot use Safe Mode and Internet Recovery.

One of the users facing the problem said that Apple Support advised taking the MacBook Pro for repair. In another discussion of the issue, company representatives reported referring complaints to a team of engineers. In other words, the manufacturer is already aware of the situation, but no official statements have yet been made. Until the bug fixes, all 2013 and 2014 MacBook Pro owners are advised to postpone the update to macOS Big Sur.
